Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
Directions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the head of cabbage and place the entire head into the boiling water. Cook for 5-7 minutes, until the outer leaves are softened. Remove the cabbage from the water and carefully peel off 10-12 leaves. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, cooked rice, diced onion, minced garlic, dried thyme, dried oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Take one cabbage leaf and place a spoonful of the pork mixture in the center. Fold in the sides of the leaf and roll it up tightly, like a burrito. Repeat with the remaining cabbage leaves and pork mixture.
- In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat some oil over medium heat. Place the cabbage rolls seam side down in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until browned. Flip the rolls over and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, combine the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Mix well.
- Pour the tomato sauce mixture over the cabbage rolls in the skillet. Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 45 minutes, or until the cabbage rolls are tender.
