Ingredients

  • 1 large head cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 can (14 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth

Directions

  1. Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. Core the cabbage and carefully place it in the boiling water. Cook for 10 minutes or until the leaves are softened.
  2. Remove the cabbage from the pot and let it cool. Gently remove the softened leaves and set them aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, uncooked rice, onion, garlic, parsley, salt, black pepper, paprika, and dried thyme. Mix well until all the ingredients are fully incorporated.
  4. Take a cabbage leaf and place a scoop of the ground beef mixture onto the center of the leaf. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling and roll it up tightly.
  5. Repeat this process with the remaining cabbage leaves and filling mixture.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth.
  8. Spread a layer of the tomato sauce mixture in the bottom of a baking dish. Place the cabbage rolls, seam side down, in the baking dish.
  9. Pour the remaining tomato sauce mixture over the cabbage rolls.
  10. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1 hour.
  11. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the cabbage rolls are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
  12. Serve the cabbage rolls hot, spooning some of the sauce over each roll. Enjoy!
