It features a crunchy chocolate crust, a layer of smooth Bavarian cream, and is topped with a generous amount of whipped cream and toasted almonds. Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate cookie crumbs
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 quart vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped toasted almonds
  • 1/2 cup chocolate sauce

Directions

  1. In a bowl, mix the chocolate cookie crumbs and melted butter until well combined.
  2. Press the mixture onto the bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie dish to form the crust. Place in the freezer for 10 minutes to set.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, soften the vanilla ice cream by stirring it with a spoon or electric mixer until smooth.
  4. Spread the softened ice cream evenly onto the crust. Place back in the freezer for 30 minutes to firm up.
  5. In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream and sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is hot, but not boiling.
  6. In a separate small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the water. Let it sit for 5 minutes to soften.
  7. Whisk the cocoa powder into the hot cream mixture until smooth. Remove from heat.
  8. Add the softened gelatin to the hot cream mixture and stir until completely dissolved.
  9. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  10. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature, stirring occasionally.
  11. Once cooled, pour the Bavarian cream mixture over the frozen ice cream layer in the pie dish.
  12. Place the pie dish back in the freezer and let it set for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  13. Before serving, remove the pie from the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly.
  14. Sprinkle the chopped toasted almonds over the top of the pie.
  15. Drizzle the chocolate sauce over the almonds and serve immediately.
