Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles or toppings of your choice

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a doughnut pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Transfer the doughnut batter into a piping bag or a large ziplock bag with the corner snipped off.
  6. Pipe the batter into the greased doughnut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the doughnuts spring back when lightly touched.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the doughnuts cool in the pan for a few minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a shallow bowl. If desired, add food coloring to achieve your preferred color.
  10. Dip each cooled doughnut into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off. Place the glazed doughnuts back on the wire rack.
  11. While the glaze is still wet, sprinkle the doughnuts with your favorite toppings or sprinkles.
  12. Let the glaze set for about 15 minutes before serving. Enjoy these delicious baked doughnuts!
