Ingredients
- 2 cups dried chickpeas, soaked overnight
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Fresh cilantro, for garnish
Directions
- Drain and rinse the soaked chickpeas. In a pressure cooker, add the chickpeas along with enough water to cover them. Cook for about 10-12 whistles or until the chickpeas are soft and tender. Set aside.
- Heat oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Sauté for a minute.
- Add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates from the mixture.
- Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the cooked chickpeas along with the water they were cooked in. Mix everything together and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes on low heat.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan bread.
