  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, mashed
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar, for dusting

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the mashed strawberries with 1 tablespoon of the flour mixture. Set aside.
  7. In a separate bowl, combine the cocoa powder and boiling water to make a smooth paste.

  9. Add the remaining batter on top and repeat the strawberry and cocoa swirls.
  10. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
