Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk and buttermilk. Mix well after each addition.
  5. Fold in the caramel sauce until fully incorporated into the batter.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops with a spatula.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  8. Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. While the cakes cool, prepare the caramel frosting. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat until well combined.
