- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk and buttermilk. Mix well after each addition.
- Fold in the caramel sauce until fully incorporated into the batter.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops with a spatula.

- Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the cakes cool, prepare the caramel frosting. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat until well combined.
- Pour in the heavy cream and vanilla extract, and continue to beat until the frosting is light and fluffy.
- Once the cakes have cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of caramel frosting on top. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with the remaining caramel frosting.
