It's easy to make and will have your house smelling like a warm apple pie. Serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for a truly indulgent treat.

Ingredients

  • 6 medium-sized apples
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Place them in a large mixing bowl and toss with lemon juice.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle the mixture over the sliced apples and toss gently to coat them evenly.
  4. Transfer the coated apple slices to the prepared baking dish, spreading them out evenly.
  5. In the same bowl used for the apple mixture, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.
  6. Add the cold cubed butter to the oat mixture and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to incorporate it until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  7. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple slices in the baking dish, covering them completely.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 35 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbling.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
