Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 batch vanilla frosting
  • Green food coloring
  • Edible candy eyes
  • Lily pad-shaped green candies
  • Gummy frogs

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  4. Pour in the boiling water and stir until the batter is smooth.
  5. Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full with batter.
  6. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.
  7. Remove the cupcakes from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
  8. Meanwhile, prepare the vanilla frosting according to your favorite recipe or using a store-bought one.
  9. Add green food coloring to the frosting until you achieve the desired shade of green for the frog's body.
  10. Once the cupcakes have cooled, frost each one with a generous amount of green frosting.
  11. Gently press two candy eyes onto each cupcake to create the frog's eyes.
  12. Place a lily pad-shaped green candy on top of the frosting near the edge of each cupcake.
  13. Carefully place a gummy frog on each lily pad, pressing it lightly into the frosting.
  14. Repeat the process for all the cupcakes.
  15. Serve the frog cupcakes at room temperature and enjoy!
