Ingredients
- 1 pound dried navy beans
- 6 cups water
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
Directions
- Rinse the navy beans under cold water and remove any debris or stones. Place the beans in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for 2 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and let the beans soak for 1 hour.
- After soaking, drain the beans and rinse them again.
- In a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot, cook the chopped onion over medium heat until it becomes translucent.
- Add the soaked and drained navy beans, molasses, brown sugar, mustard, salt, black pepper, and paprika to the pot. Stir well to combine.
- Add enough water to cover the beans by about an inch. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven. Bake for 2 hours, or until the beans are tender and the sauce has thickened. Stir the beans occasionally while baking.
- Remove the pot from the oven and sprinkle the crumbled bacon over the beans. Stir gently to incorporate the bacon.
- Serve the Down Home Baked Beans hot and enjoy!
