Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee
- 1/4 cup coffee liqueur
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool completely.
- In a small bowl, mix together brewed coffee and coffee liqueur. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, beat mascarpone cheese and heavy cream until smooth. Add powdered sugar and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
- To assemble the cake, place one layer of cake on a serving plate. Brush with half of the coffee mixture.
- Spread a layer of the mascarpone mixture over the cake layer and repeat with the second layer of cake, more coffee mixture, and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- Dust the top of the cake with cocoa powder.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 4 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
