Ingredients

  • 2 heads of broccoli, cut into florets
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the broccoli florets until crisp-tender, about 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute until the mixture turns golden.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk and continue cooking, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  5. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  6. In a greased baking dish, spread the cooked broccoli evenly. Pour the cheese sauce over the broccoli, making sure to coat it completely.
  7. In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs with a drizzle of melted butter until evenly coated. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the top of the casserole.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the breadcrumbs are golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy this delicious broccoli and cheese casserole!
