This classic homemade peppermint bark is the perfect holiday treat. Made with layers of rich dark chocolate and white chocolate, and topped with crunchy candy canes, it's the perfect blend of sweet and minty. Ingredients

  • 12 ounces semisweet or dark chocolate, chopped
  • 12 ounces white chocolate, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/2 cup crushed candy canes or peppermint candies

Directions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the semisweet or dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water, stirring until smooth.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the peppermint extract.
  4. Pour the melted chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it into an even layer with a spatula.
  5. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes, or until the chocolate is set.
  6. Melt the white chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water, stirring until smooth.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in half of the crushed candy canes or peppermint candies.
  8. Pour the white chocolate mixture over the chilled dark chocolate layer and spread it into an even layer.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining crushed candy canes or peppermint candies over the top of the white chocolate layer.
  10. Return the baking sheet to the refrigerator for another 10-15 minutes, or until completely set.
  11. Once set, remove from the refrigerator and break or cut the peppermint bark into pieces.
  12. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
