Ingredients

  • 5 pounds pork shoulder
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Rub the mixture evenly over the pork shoulder.
  2. In a slow cooker, pour the apple cider vinegar and place the seasoned pork shoulder on top. Cover and cook on low heat for 8 hours or until the meat is tender and easily falls apart.
  3. While the pork is cooking, prepare the barbecue sauce. In a saucepan, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and liquid smoke. Stir well and simmer over low heat for 15 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  4. Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Discard any excess fat.
  5. Place the shredded pork back into the slow cooker and pour the prepared barbecue sauce over it. Stir until the pork is evenly coated.
  6. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat for an additional 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  7. Serve the pulled pork on soft buns with coleslaw on top. Enjoy!
