Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the oil, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, and mix until just combined.

  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
