In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat together butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, molasses, and vanilla extract.
Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
Drop dough by heaping tablespoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart. Flatten dough slightly with your hands.
Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden brown. Allow to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
