Ingredients
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 1 cup hot water
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch loaf pan with butter.
- In a medium bowl, combine the dates and hot water. Let stand for 10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the baking soda, salt, and vanilla and mix until combined.
- Add the cocoa powder and mix until combined. Gradually add the flour, stirring until just combined.
- Add the date mixture and walnuts and stir until just combined.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let cool before slicing and serving.
