Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 bags chai tea
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- Add the dry ingredients in three additions, alternating with the buttermilk, mixing just until combined.
- Brew the two bags of chai tea in 1 cup of boiling water.
- Add the chai tea to the cupcake batter and mix until combined.
- Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners and fill each liner 3/4 full with batter.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cupcake comes out clean.
- Let cool completely before frosting.
