  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 14 ounces caramel candies, unwrapped
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for rolling.
  5. Take half of the dough and press it evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  6. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the caramel candies and heavy cream. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the caramels are completely melted and smooth.
  7. Pour the caramel mixture over the dough in the baking pan, spreading it out evenly.
  8. Crumble the remaining dough on top of the caramel layer, using your fingers to create an even layer.
  9. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the top of the dough.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  11. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
