Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter (melted)
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the melted butter, eggs, brown sugar, and buttermilk. Stir in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  4. Fold in the raisins, if desired.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.
  6. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
