Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease 12 muffin cups or line with paper muffin liners.
In a medium bowl, mix together applesauce, flour, wheat bran, baking soda, baking powder, salt and sugar. In a separate bowl, mix together oil and egg.
Stir the oil and egg mixture into the flour mixture until just blended. Do not overmix.
Fill muffin cups two-thirds full and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
Let cool for 5 minutes before removing from muffin tin.
