Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and mushrooms and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is soft and the mushrooms are golden brown, about 5 minutes.
Add the apple cider, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme and cook for another 5 minutes.
Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper and dredge in the flour. Add to the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 3 minutes per side.
Add the chicken broth to the skillet and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and cook, covered, for 20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
