Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb Italian sausage, ground
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 teaspoons chopped fresh oregano
- 2 teaspoons chopped fresh basil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Salt to taste
Directions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the sausage and cook, stirring and breaking up any large pieces, until cooked through, about 8 minutes.
- Stir in the tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, oregano, basil, sugar, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is thickened, about 45 minutes.
- Taste and season with salt, if desired.
