Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup finely chopped black walnuts

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Stir in the chopped black walnuts.
  5. Pour batter into prepared cake pan. Bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  6. Allow to cool before serving.
