Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef heart, cut into 1-2 inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and diced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the beef heart and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the beef heart from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Add the onion, garlic, jalapeno pepper, cumin, and oregano to the skillet. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the diced tomatoes, raisins, almonds, cocoa powder, and chicken broth to the skillet. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
  4. Add the beef heart back to the skillet and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve with warm tortillas, rice, and beans.
