Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. steak (sirloin, ribeye, or flank steak)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil. Mix until combined.
  2. Add the steak to the mixture and turn to coat. Cover and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat a grill pan or outdoor grill over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Grill the steak for 5-7 minutes per side, or until desired doneness is reached.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water. Add the mixture to the remaining marinade and stir until combined.
  6. Bring the marinade to a boil in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Boil for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
  7. Remove the steak from the grill and let rest for 5 minutes. Slice the steak against the grain and serve with the teriyaki sauce.
