Ingredients

  • 1 lb. thinly sliced beef (ribeye or sirloin)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon mirin (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons gochujang (Korean hot pepper paste)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the beef, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, black pepper, and mirin, if using. Mix until the beef is evenly coated and let marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the onion, carrot, and bell pepper to the skillet and cook for another 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are lightly browned.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the gochujang, honey, and sesame seeds. Pour the sauce over the beef and vegetables and cook for another 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is thickened and the vegetables are cooked through.
  5. Serve the bulgogi with steamed rice and/or kimchi.
