Ingredients
- 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons ground paprika
- 2 teaspoons ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 can (14 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves
- Naan bread and basmati rice, for serving
Directions
- In a bowl, combine the yogurt, lemon juice, cumin, paprika, coriander, turmeric, chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.
- Cut the chicken thighs into bite-sized pieces and add them to the yogurt marinade. Stir until all the chicken pieces are coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Thread the marinated chicken onto skewers and grill for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and slightly charred. Remove from the grill and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft and golden brown, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for an additional minute.
- Pour in the tomato sauce and stir well. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Stir in the heavy cream and simmer for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce is thickened slightly. Add the grilled chicken pieces to the sauce and toss to coat.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves and serve the chicken tikka masala hot with naan bread and basmati rice.
- Enjoy the flavors of India in every bite!
