- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup lard
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon anise seeds
- 1/4 cup brandy
- 1/4 cup sugar (for coating)
Directions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the lard and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and continue to cream until well combined.
- Stir in the cinnamon, anise seeds, and brandy until evenly incorporated.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Divide the dough into two portions and shape each into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll out a portion of the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Using cookie cutters, cut out desired shapes and place on the prepared baking sheets.
- Sprinkle the cookies with sugar and gently press it into the dough.
