Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the oil, applesauce, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Stir in the sifted ingredients.
  4. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the brownies spring back when lightly touched.
  6. Cool before cutting into squares.
