Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups chopped onions
  • 2 cups chopped celery
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pound bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 8 cups cubed stale bread
  • 2-3 cups chicken broth

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the onions and celery, and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the thyme, sage, marjoram, rosemary, salt, and pepper and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Remove from the heat and stir in the bacon.
  6. In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes and bacon-vegetable mixture.
  7. Slowly add enough chicken broth to moisten the mixture.
  8. Transfer the stuffing to a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  9. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until golden brown.
