In a large pot over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onions until the beef is cooked through and the onions are softened. Drain off any fat.
Add the garlic, tomatoes, tomato sauce, black beans, pinto beans, green chilies, beef broth, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, oregano, cayenne pepper, and salt and pepper. Stir to combine.
Bring the soup to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Taste and adjust seasonings if desired. Serve with optional toppings if desired.
