Ingredients
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 teaspoons ground cardamom
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm water
1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
2 eggs
4 to 5 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup chopped almonds
1/4 cup chopped pistachios
Directions
In a large bowl, cream together the sugar, butter, cardamom and salt.
In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
Add the yeast mixture to the creamed mixture, stirring until combined.
Beat in the eggs until well blended.
Gradually stir in enough flour to make a soft dough.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning it to grease the top.
Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll into a 12-inch circle.
Sprinkle with almonds and pistachios. Cut into 12 wedges.
Roll up each wedge, starting at the wide end.
Arrange the wedges in a greased 10-inch tube pan.
Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
Bake at 375° for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pan.
