Ingredients

  • 6 medium-sized squid
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup onions, finely chopped
  • ½ cup bell peppers, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small red chili, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1 tablespoon cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Directions

  1. Start by cleaning the squid. Rinse them thoroughly under cold water and remove the heads and tentacles.
  2. Remove the transparent backbone from each squid and discard it. Make sure to keep the body intact.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, onions, bell peppers, garlic, red chili, parsley, lemon juice, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to form a stuffing mixture.
  4. Carefully stuff each squid body with the prepared stuffing mixture, using a spoon or your fingers. Make sure not to overstuff as the squid will shrink during cooking.
  5. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the stuffed squids and cook for about 2 minutes on each side until they turn golden brown.
  6. Remove the squids from the skillet and set them aside.
  7. In the same skillet, add the tomato sauce and red chili flakes. Stir well and let the sauce simmer for 5 minutes.
  8. Return the stuffed squids to the skillet and simmer them in the tomato sauce for another 10 minutes, ensuring they are cooked through.
  9. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped cilantro.
  10. Serve the Spicy Stuffed Squid hot as an appetizer or with steamed rice as a main course.
