Ingredients

  • 2 lbs (900g) chicken drumsticks
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust according to spice preference)
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, minced garlic, grated ginger, ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric, paprika, garam masala, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well to form a smooth paste.
  2. Add the chicken drumsticks to the bowl and coat them thoroughly with the marinade mixture. Make sure each piece is well coated.
  3. Cover the bowl and marinate the chicken in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight. This will allow the flavors to penetrate the chicken and make it more tender.
  4. Preheat the grill or oven to medium-high heat. If using a grill, oil the grates to prevent the chicken from sticking. If using an oven, preheat it to 400°F (200°C) and place the chicken on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  5. Grill or bake the chicken for about 25-30 minutes, turning occasionally, until it is cooked through and nicely charred. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
  6. Remove the chicken from the grill or oven and let it rest for a few minutes.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with naan bread, rice, or a side salad. Enjoy the flavorful and spicy Indian chicken!
