  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, avocado, green onions, cilantro

Directions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef and chorizo sausage over medium heat. Break it up into small pieces with a spoon while cooking.
  2. Once the meat is browned, add the diced onion, garlic, and green bell pepper. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, kidney beans, pinto beans, chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, cayenne pepper (if using), cocoa powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  4. Bring the chili to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it cook for 1 hour, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
