Ingredients

Directions
- If using dried chickpeas, soak them overnight in water. Rinse and drain the chickpeas before using.
- In a large pan or pressure cooker, heat the oil over medium heat.
- Add the cumin seeds and bay leaf. Let them sizzle for a few seconds.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and slit green chilies. Sauté for another minute.
- Add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates from the masala.
- Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, and garam masala. Mix well.
- Add the soaked or canned chickpeas and mix until they are well coated with the spices.
- Add salt to taste and enough water to cover the chickpeas.
- If using a pressure cooker, cover it and cook for about 15-20 minutes or until the chickpeas are tender. If using a regular pan, cover it and simmer for about 30-40 minutes or until the chickpeas are tender.
- Once the chickpeas are cooked, garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
