Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer on medium speed, cream the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Beat in the vanilla extract.
  5. Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add the flour mixture, beating until fully incorporated.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  7. Drop the dough by rounded tablespoons onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.
  8. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, until the edges are lightly browned. Cool the cookies on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
