Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup grated onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, grated onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Shape the mixture into oval-shaped patties, about 3/4 inch thick.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 5-6 minutes, or until they release their moisture and start to brown.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, all-purpose flour, ketchup, dried thyme, and dried rosemary until well combined and no lumps remain.
  6. Pour the broth mixture into the skillet with the mushrooms. Cook, stirring constantly, until the gravy thickens.
  7. Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spooning the mushroom gravy over the top. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  8. Serve the Sorta Salisbury Steak hot with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. Enjoy!
