Enjoy tender and flavorful chicken thighs with a delicious sesame glaze made in the slow cooker. This recipe is perfect for a busy weeknight dinner and requires minimal effort. The chicken thighs become lusciously tender as they cook low and slow, while the sesame glaze adds a savory and slightly sweet flavor. Serve it over steamed rice or with your favorite vegetables for a complete and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 8 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds

Directions

  1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  2. Place the chicken thighs in the slow cooker and pour the sauce mixture over them.
  3. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 4 hours or until the chicken is cooked through and tender.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water to make a slurry.
  5. Remove the chicken thighs from the slow cooker and set aside.
  6. Pour the liquid from the slow cooker into a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  7. Add the cornstarch slurry to the boiling liquid and cook until the sauce thickens, stirring constantly.
  8. Return the chicken thighs to the slow cooker and pour the thickened sauce over them.
  9. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for an additional 15 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.
  10. Serve the sesame chicken thighs over steamed rice, garnished with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.

Interesting Facts

  • Slow cooking the chicken thighs allows the flavors to develop and the meat to become tender and juicy.
  • The combination of soy sauce, honey, and sesame oil in the sauce creates a perfect balance of salty, sweet, and nutty flavors.
  • Toasting the sesame seeds before garnishing enhances their aroma and adds an extra layer of flavor to the dish.
