Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon shrimp paste (belacan)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 shallots, minced
  • 3 red chili peppers, cut into thin slices
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice

Directions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, add the shrimp paste and cook until lightly browned, about 2 minutes.
  2. Add the oil, garlic, and shallots, and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add the chili peppers, sugar, and salt, and cook for another minute.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the lime juice.
  5. Let cool before serving.
