Grandma's Clover Leaf Rolls
Ingredients
2 packages (4.5 ounces each) active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (105 to 115 degrees F)
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons salt
2 cups warm milk (105 to 115 degrees F)
1/4 cup shortening
4 to 5 cups all-purpose flour
Directions
In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water.
Add the sugar, salt, milk, shortening and 2 cups of flour; beat until smooth.
Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.
Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top.
Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
Punch the dough down and turn onto a lightly floured surface.
Divide into 24 pieces and roll into balls.
Place in greased 13x9x2-inch baking pans.
Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.
Bake at 375° for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove from pans to wire racks to cool.
Interesting Facts
These rolls can be frozen for up to 3 months.
Rolls can be brushed with butter after baking for extra flavor.
