Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ⅓ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 cup cherry pie filling
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the vanilla, vinegar, and cold water, and stir until smooth.
  3. Pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  4. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes. Invert onto a serving plate, and spread the cherry pie filling over the top.
  5. In a medium saucepan, melt the chocolate chips and butter over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Drizzle over the top of the cake.
