Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 10-inch Bundt pan.
In a large bowl, combine cake mix, pumpkin pie spice, butter, eggs, and pumpkin. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until combined. Spread half of the batter in prepared pan.
In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, granulated sugar, and nuts (if using). Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until combined. Spread cream cheese mixture over cake batter in pan.
Spread remaining cake batter over cream cheese layer. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over cake batter.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Cool cake in pan for 10 minutes. Invert onto a serving plate. Cool completely before serving.
