Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ammonia
  • 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Add the peppermint extract and ammonia and mix until combined.
  6. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  7. Fold in the crushed peppermint candy until evenly distributed.
  8. Drop tablespoonfuls of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
  10. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
