Ingredients

  • 2 cups of pre-cooked corn flour (masarepa)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups of warm water
  • 2 tablespoons of butter, melted

Directions

  1. In a bowl, combine the corn flour, salt and warm water. Stir until everything is well blended.
  2. Knead the dough until it is smooth and pliable. If the dough is too dry, add a little more warm water.
  3. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll them into balls.
  4. Flatten the balls with your hands until they are about ½ inch thick.
  5. Heat a griddle over medium heat and brush it with the melted butter.
  6. Place the arepas on the griddle and cook for about 5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  7. Serve warm with your favorite toppings such as cheese, avocado, or sour cream.
