Ingredients
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Directions
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes, until the yeast is foamy.
- Add the flour, salt and olive oil to the bowl and stir to combine. Knead the dough in the bowl until it is smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
- Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough out into a 12-inch (30 cm) circle.
- In a small bowl, combine the Parmesan cheese, oregano, basil, garlic powder and black pepper. Sprinkle the cheese mixture over the dough and press it lightly into the dough.
- Cut the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 10-inch (25 cm) long breadstick.
- Place the breadsticks onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
