Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  2. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved.
  3. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the warm water and yeast and stir until dissolved.
  5. Add the eggs, flour, salt, milk, and butter-sugar mixture and stir until a soft dough forms.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes.
  7. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth.
  8. Allow to rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  9. Punch down the dough and turn out onto a lightly floured surface.
  10. Roll the dough out to 1/2-inch thickness.
  11. Cut out 2-inch rounds with a biscuit cutter.
  12. Place the rounds on a greased baking sheet.
  13. Cover with a damp cloth and allow to rise for 30 minutes.
  14. Bake in a preheated 375°F oven for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  15. Remove from oven and serve warm.
