Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, room temperature
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9-inch cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, and beat until combined.
  4. Add the milk and vanilla extract and beat until combined.
  5. Add the dry ingredients and beat until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
