Ingredients

  • 1 cup rye flour
  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup mustard seeds
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup warm water

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together rye flour, wheat flour, mustard seeds, sugar and salt.
  2. In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 5 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  5. Add the vegetable oil and knead for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth.
  7. Let the dough rise for 30 minutes.
  8. Punch down the dough and shape into a round loaf.
  9. Place the loaf in a greased 9-inch round cake pan.
  10. Let rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  11. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C).
  12. Bake the bread for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  13. Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
